STEM learning comes in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes the shape is a paper airplane!

Dr. Goodman, a pediatrician at Riley Hospital for Children, spoke to our 3rd-5th grade this week. Dr. Goodman has Treacher Collins Syndrome, one of the
conditions that Auggie Pullman has in the book “Wonder” by R.J. Palacio. Dr. Goodman's shared about his life and the importance of kindness, making good choices, self-control, self-confidence, equity, inclusion, and anti-bullying. We always appreciate having Dr. Goodman visit Roachdale Elementary.

Our 5th grade robotics club is underway for this year and they are learning a lot about building and programming as well as team skills of goal setting, collaboration, and decision-making.

A little fun to end our week last week. Our teachers put on a skit for our students. It is so much fun to engage with our students in a different way and show our sense of humor as well. Thanks to all of the staff participants!

Community partners are so important to our schools and we have some great ones!!
Today the Putnam Mental Health Association and PIE Coalition brought their Puppet Power to our K-2 students. They focus on making good decisions, how to react toward bullies, and stranger awareness.

Another great STEM experience for our Roachdale students! They are using VR to explore space.

We are so proud of our Math Bowl Team! They earned 4th place in the Math Bowl Competition last eve. GREAT JOB!!

We had such a great day meeting our new class of K bound students. We are excited for the journey they are about to begin with North Putnam Schools! If you were unable to attend K Round-up, it is not too late to register your child for school next year. Reach out to us at 765-522-1732.

Our Spring Book Fair starts next week! Family Night is Apr. 3 from 3:30-5:30. We hope to see you there!

We want to thank Howard Brooks, Professor of Physics and Astronomy at DePauw University, for educating Roachdale Elementary students regarding the Solar Eclipse today. What a great learning experience for our students!

Tomorrow is the big day! We’ll have a blast in the annual American Heart Association Kids Heart Challenge. It’s not too late to sign up and choose a heart-healthy challenge. Go to heart.org/KHC or search “Kids Heart Challenge” in your app store to download the app and register. We’re looking forward to a fun-filled event!
We encourage our students to wear their class shirts tomorrow!

We are preparing for tonight! We hope you all come out and enjoy our Spring Show tonight at 6 p.m.

Friendship is so heartwarming!

STEM Bridge Building
Grade 4 worked really well in their groups designing different kinds of bridges and then putting them together. I am amazed at some of their bridge engineering!

Kindergarten did a storybook stem on “the prince frog”, an adaptation of the princess and the frog. They discussed the differences in both the stories, and also did a frog step-by-step Lego build. 🐸

I hope you have made plans to join our Language Arts Family Night! We are looking forward to a wide range of fun activities. Students attending will receive one homework pass. The grade with the most students attending will also earn an extra recess.

We love to take every situation and turn it into a learning experience for our students. Our Kindergarten students enjoyed the snow on Friday as they learned about snow flakes and the Ice Age animals in STEM.

Officer Collings began the DARE Program with our 5th grade students today. We appreciate the work he has put into training and preparing for this program.

So much fun in the sun on Friday! We are looking forward to more sunshine and warm days ahead. In the meantime, remember to send a coat to school with your child. It looks like there will be some cool days in between the warm ones! We get outside as often as we can.
